”Wonder what they’re doing” Heatherkit mewed enviously, chewing on Falconkit’s ear in a bored fashion and batting Pridekit with her paws in a contented manner. Too dopey to protest Pridekit let herself be playfully battered and watched a falling leaf make its short but graceful flight down…down…down… until it landed in the centre of the camp, becoming instantly unrecognizable amidst the mass of other leaves. Leaf-Fall had begun; bringing the joyous experience of chasing leaves to the young kits to whom this was their first Autumn but also the bitter cold of the steadily elongating nights and turbulent storms and rain-falls. But to Heatherkit it also brought boredom as the Apprentice Contest was going on far too long and by the looks of it the clan cats wouldn’t have a Gathering …or maybe they were in the gathering at the moment. She didn’t really care. She just wanted to be there. Pridekit nodded, reading the expression on her sisters face correctly. She wanted to go to the Apprentice Contest too, just to look and see what they were doing even if they didn’t compete. But being the slightly more adventurous of the two - she was the one who was going to do something about it and; rolling over onto her belly and getting up bandy-legged, she padded over to her sister Lustkit and brother Falconkit. ”C’mon, we’re not gonna just sit here!” she moaned, heart hammering, half hoping they would agree with her and they’d go off on an adventure, but also hoping they would say no and they’d just go and chase some leaves again, not too exciting but perfectly safe. However Heatherkit’s eyes had lit up excitedly and suddenly Pridekit decided not to voice her troubles to the little group. She didn’t want to appear the kitten.

Thunderfoot growled, trailing behind Cornflower as she seemed to walk faster and faster around camp. She'd always been making excuses about having to train Stripepaw, at least that's what Thunderfoot now thought. He jumped in front of Cornflower, his eyes pleading. "Cornflower, could you just stop for one second? I'm trying to tell you something! What did I do wrong?" He demanded, feeling his body filled with depression. Life without Cornflower was like the four seasons with no green-leaf, a candle without a flame - he needed her. 'I love her, I don't want her leaving me.' He said, then glanced to Shiningfrost. The medicine cat smiled before leaving her den, and Thunderfoot felt grateful. Every little rough patch in their relationship - Shiningfrost would always pick up the pieces and put them back together. He turned to Cornflower again, waiting.

”Nothing” Cornflower sighed, paws itching to resume her furious pacing which turned all the turbulent emotions bubbling and storming inside her to one - energy. ”Nothing really…” she mewed again, not meeting his eyes. The truth was that it was so hard for her to balance the two; Stripepaw who she loved like a daughter and Thunderfoot who she loved like a mate. The Apprentice Contest { although short } had been great as Cornflower hadn’t had to worry about pleasing Thunderfoot or anything like that, it was just she and Stripepaw and all the other cats united into one big group. But, thinking that, the bets moments of her life she had shared with Thunderfoot - he had even caused them and nothing could replace him in her heart. She supposed she just needed some space. ’Absence makes the heart grow fonder’ as her mother had said to her, obviously passing down the rather catchy quote from generations of mouths. But Cornflower’s golden ears drooped as she remembered the second part of the riddle. ’But if left too long it starts to wander…’ ”Thunderfoot, I love you” she began, suddenly wheeling round to face you, everything in her features indicating that there a ‘but’ about to come. ”But right now I need space.” And suddenly she felt anger, anger like she had never felt before, painful anger! The mist that had been cloaking the four territories for weeks now was getting on her nerves for she felt her mind was fogged up too and angry, oh so angry! ”JUST GO AWAY” she found herself shouting, completely out of control. Suddenly she felt scared, she didn’t want to shout at Thunderfoot. The cloying mist was affecting all cats, creeping into their hearts and turning them black as charcoal. ”I DON’T EVEN LIKE YOU ANYWAY!” Cornflower bounded off into the woods, slashing at a nearby tree as she went. Fireclan had not infected her …but they had affected her weak soul.

Thunderfoot stood there, shocked. She - she never liked him? But, but he loved her! He wanted to scream at her how much this hurt, this internal pain. Feeling embarrassed and shocked, Thunderfoot ran out of camp in the other direction - the direction towards BoulderClan. And suddenly an idea came to him. He needed to be as far away from her as possible, and that would mean going to a different Clan. He needed to be, and she'd just shattered his heart - surely that would mean he could be evil like them. A tear fell down his cheek, and instantly he felt embarrassed in his own mind. A full-grown tom, crying? But he couldn't help it, it was as though someone had just taken Cornflower away from him... Stripepaw. "I hate you, Stripepaw." He murmured and ran off, managing to smile at the thought of joining BoulderClan, where his sister was.
Shiningfrost grew angry and insulted, Cornflower was so ungrateful! After everything this medicine cat had done, she deserved to see a happy couple in return! But she had to remember this was not about her, this was about Cornflower and Thunderfoot. Instantly, as she saw what direction Thunderfoot was going in, she knew that if Cornflower didn't stop it would be too late. The she-cat ran at top speed, surging forward as she saw a tiny glint of cream-coloured fur. Shiningfrost tripped and ran head first into Cornflower's body, which was good as it allowed Shiningfrost to be sitting on top of the she-cat. "Explain, NOW." She hissed. Seeing Shiningfrost angry was...kind of frightening... Was this what it was like for Earthstar?

”Oh Shiningfrost, I’m scared!” Cornflower sobbed, placing her face onto Shiningfrost’s pale pelt and sobbing, the anger receding slowly inside her but still leaving a burning, churning sensation. ”I didn’t mean to do that - I love him but something made me…” Her eyes flicked open and her body went rigid. ”It’s in the air” she hissed quietly, eyes popping, claws digging into the turf. ”Something’s coming Shiningfrost - something’s coming closer, closer ….” She broke off and screamed, burying her face in the leaf mould and bark of the forest floor. Her golden fur stood on an end and her whiskers danced as if laced with static energy. Something was near. But only Shiningfrost could see it.
Hello Shiningfrost, I’ve found you at last
Scarletvixen purred happily, scratching a blood red fox into Shiningfrost’s ear with long, hooked claws..

Shiningfrost screamed and felt herself ram into a tree as she jumped to the side, and she collapsed to the ground weakly. She knew what was happening - FireClan had taken over. She was expecting this, but she didn't want Scarletvixen to take over her! Shiningfrost already felt terrible pain everywhere, though her ear was cold and dead-like. She didn't want Scarletvixen, she could use every bit of Shiningfrost's mind to weaken her until she died or broke. All of Shiningfrost's terrible childhood memories. The dog attack, in her point of view. But most importantly - loving Earthstar, and still loving him. She wanted nothing more than for him to be happy, even if it meant not being able to love him. "Cornflower...get Thunderfoot before...he gets to BoulderClan...before he's killed because of them!" Shiningfrost didn't have time to explain, but just time to say all of this. She managed to lift her trembling legs and run as far as she could, which was not as far as she had wished but still far enough. 'I want isolation!' She thought, but felt the very feeling of her body disappearing, as she began evaporating into the dark, cold corner of her mind. And instantly memories flashed before her eyes. Loving Earthstar, saving him at the dog attack, hating him, loving Tanglewood - and then her childhood came. She screamed, wanting it to end. But it did not. Her mother, Brightdream, taking her two brothers and abusing them. They cringed against the floor, feeling their life disappear before their very eyes. Shiningfrost sobbed, remembering seeing all of this - it was her punishment for becoming a medicine cat apprentice. And then her father, Bonemarrow, watching her become a full-fledged medicine cat and destroying every herb she had. And then the both of her parents, right before they died, dunking her in the water as they tried drowning her. But then - then Earthstar came, and he rescued Shiningfrost. She sobbed harder than ever.

Yes yes
Scarletvixen crooned, feeling her paws run over the memories and shape them into ice cold spikes in her paws. Feel the pain. It’ll soon be over …but we want all the hatred and fear we can! She threw back her glossy scarlet head and screamed with derisive laughter that only Shiningfrost could hear. Fireclan’s plans were working - these weak forest cats didn’t stand a chance. There was only one way to kill a Fireclan cat; one way that no one, not even Silverfang, the leader of the whole operation knew about. Only she did. And that’s why she had chosen to infect Shiningfrost. It was love. Love could shatter the hard, black hearts of the toughened Fireclan warriors, true, un-dying love. And of course - who better to invade than a medicine cat? Even if the whole plan should fail - she’d be completely safe in the body that could have no love returned to it. Shiningfrost Shiningfrost she purred in a sing-song voice, seeing the world through the medicine cat’s eyes. Wow - she was short! What memories shall we bring up now…oh - I know the twisted medicine cat grinned, eyes twinkling with malicious joy. This would cause Shiningfrost pain as well as poisoning her mind which was vital to their success. Do you remember Earthpaw? The apprentice who wouldn’t even give you a second glance? Do you remember, Shiningfrost? You probably want to forget don’t you. You probably want to forget Heatherpaw! But he hasn’t. He still loves her you know. More than he loves you. More than he will ever love you. Can’t you see Shiningfrost - he won’t even pay you a sideways glance. Why choose Snowstar when you were there under his nose the whole time? He uses you Shiningfrost. Us two are better than him, us two together, we’ll show that ungrateful leader won’t we!

Shiningfrost starting wailing, having something in her heart tell her this was partly true. Earthstar had chosen a cat he didn't even know, and - but she was a medicine cat! "He didn't fall for me, because I'm his medicine cat." She managed to murmur through shuddered sobs, but Scarletvixen's voice was overpowering her. And there was absolutely no way they could win, FireClan was too strong. But every little thought that Shiningfrost thought, Scarletvixen could hear. And just the thought of Shiningfrost helping Scarletvixen, it made her feel stronger. "Alright." And as the word escaped her lips, she felt power. Enormous power, and she didn't want it to stop. "We'll destroy Earthstar - but what about Snowstar?" Shiningfrost asked, but she had no idea that instead of rather killing them, they were/would face a much worse fate.

Why did almost everycat have to go to this stupid Apprentice Contest? With most of the Clan cats gone in LakeClan, the camp seemed...empty. Devoid of life, in her eyes. Why couldn't she have gone, along with her sisters Pridekit and Heatherkit, and her only brother, Lustkit? The young kit mumbled belligerently under her breath, swatting at Heatherkit as her sister chewed on her ear without much thought. "Stop it you crazy furball," Falconkit whined, slapping her lightly on the flank with her black tail. Her sister could be so annoying; it wasn't even funny. On the thought of her sister...she didn't look anything like them. It always nagged, nagged, and nagged in the back of her kit-ish mind, telling her that something was a bit off-side. Could it be that Heatherkit was fostered? As in, her mother wasn't their mother, Tigerlily, and her father not Eagletalon? If so, then she really wasn't their sister. Pushing that thought out of her mind, the kit smiled, bouncing up to her paws and playfully nudging Pridekit with her front paw. "You're right! Let's go and do something! Sitting around and doing nothing is so boring! We kits deserve some fun, right?" Crouching down and swaying her haunches, she batted at her sister. "What'cha say to that, Pridekit?"
Tigerlily watched the three kits with amusement along with her mate, her ears twitching here and there at any sensitive noise that happened to reach her ears. Eagletalon, restless beside her, shuffled his forepaws with a sigh, occasionally casting a glance out of the camp with a bored, lidded glance. He hadn't been all that glad when he was told to stay here, by the orders of herself. They had four rambunctious kits to look after; one queen shouldn't do all the work. She had ignored his complaints and protests, saying that he wanted to watch his apprentice do the task set out for him in the Apprentice Contest, but she had firmly told him "no", and that was that. Who knows how many chances were left? They're was still plently of Apprentice Contests to go. Yawning, the black-and-brown she-cat turned to face her mate sternly. "Watch them carefully, Eagletalon. I think I could use some hunting to stretch out my limbs." The warrior grunted in what she assumed was an affirmation and, with a farewell lick along his cheek, Tigerlily trotted out of the camp's boundaries, itching to get some hunting done and feel a small, furry body underneath her paws like the old times. Enthusiastic at being out for once, the queen started the hunt and padded purposefully forward in silence.
"No good Clan cats lurking around in their territories. If I had the chance, I'd slit their throats one by one." A disgruntled rogue paused by the edge of LakeClan's border, the only Clan he had adhered to for the past moons. He just disliked them -- them and all the others Clans of this whole stretch of land. And their stupid warrior code and honour and companionship and friendship! It was all truly disgusting. Who needed all those things? Wasn't solitude better, where you didn't need to worry about others, only yourself? Rogue life was certainly the life for him... But his brother, that lump of fur. He was suited to Clan-life; just how, or why, Wrath couldn't quite put his paw on. His brother was alot like him; rowdy, battle-lusting, energetic. If only he had used those fine qualities, put them to better use. How could he stand taking orders from higher ranked cats them him? It would have to be frustrating in some way. He knew that he would label it as that. The animosity that he felt for his brother was overwhelming; the scent of him still stayed in his nostrils. He was almost positive that he would recognize his brother's scent anywhere at anytime. Sniffing the boundary suspiciously, the wrathful rogue stepped into the territory like all the other times he had, slowly creeping in deeper with each pawstep. So far, he hadn't had the privilege to encounter one of those snivelling LakeClan losers. Either they just never ventured to where he was, or they never sent out one of their close-knit patrols, or whatever they liked to call it, in his direction. It could have been either the former or latter, but it didn't matter now. Catching a cat's scent through the use of his scent glands, Wrath smiled vibrantly. Finally. Thrusting himself up the trunk of a tree, he scrambled onto a thick branch with surprising agileness, surveying the floor beneath him. Angling his ears in all directions, he barely caught the sound of a mouse's heartbeat. Not interested, he was about to swivel his ears another way when that heartbeat cut off unexpectantly. Unsheathing his curved claws, the rogue jumped lithely to another branch of another tree, lowering himself into a crouch as a she-cat came into view, proudly holding her catch between her jaws. His tongue swiped along his lips, as if he could already taste the blood of battle. All thoughts were centered on his target, and his muscles tensed, ready to pounce upon Tigerlily in the most opportune time. He had her now.

ooc-- Stripepaw is back in the camp. *trembles at Meow’s post* She’s gonna diiiiiie!!!
She can die too Scarletvixen hissed, feeling a surge of hatred bubble up inside her like an overflowing volcano. She directed it into Shiningfrost, but not to hurt the she-cat, merely to pass through her body and be burnt by the medicine cat. There was no point in hurting the medicine cat now that her spirit had become more subdued. That would come later …the twisted medicine cat would have her revenge in the end, first on Snowstar, then on Shiningfrost. They were the two cats who had snatched away her life. When Snowstar became pregnant it was all Scarletvixen should do to try and meddle and comfort the leader. But she had turned her down, treated her coldly and she had taken offence. Looking back; maybe she had acted a little too touchily but then Snowstar had got Shiningfrost involved and things went from bad to worse. Meanwhile Silverfang was rising in power and; fed up of Snowstar and her Lakeclan buddies she had tagged along with him. Good thing too she thought bitterly, not meaning too but accidently sending a splitting migraine through Shiningfrost’s head in her frustration. He’s the most powerful now. But Scarletvixen wished to be in her earth body once more, to run in the long grass, to feel the life of the prey in your mouth dwindle in an instance and even to walk with Starclan again. But those times were long gone and she had Fireclan now. She had Fireclan. She was Fireclan. Scarletvixen closed her eyes in misery, then snapped them open in anger. And Snowstar and Shiningfrost would pay.
”Yeah” mewed Heatherkit, being batted off Falconkit and protesting with only a short mewl. ”I say yeah too” chipped in Pridekit and the two kits looked at their brother, then each other and burst out laughing. It was in the in the innocent and pure genes of kittens to laugh at the smallest of things. ”Mum’s gone hunting” Pridekit mewed thoughtfully, sneaking a glance at Eagletalon to make sure he wasn’t listening. ”We could go catch up with her…” Heatherkit sniffed dismissively as though the idea was far below her. She looked at her sister and brother, realizing for the first time the stark contrast her pale pelt made against the darker, dustier colours of them, her mother and her father. How odd! But pretty cool too in her opinion. Pridekit broke across her musings however. ”Well we want too, don’t we Lustkit…Falconkit!” noticing Heatherkit’s vacant expression and taking advantage of it. ”’Cos if we practice, when we’re apprentices - we’ll be the bestest of the best!” Heatherkit nodded submissively, her eyes suddenly shining. ”I’ve got an idea” she suddenly whispered to the group, then with a small giggle she raised her voice so it could be heard throughout the whole nursery. ”Oh look, there’s Walnutpaw. I wonder what he’s doing! He’s probably very bored” The little kit collapsed into giggles as Walnutpaw shot a suspicious ‘mind-your-own-business’ glare at her, Pridekit, Lustkit and Falconkit. Pridekit looked at her quizzically, brown tail snaking around her paws. ”Daddy - out the way” Heatherkit mouthed, looking at Falconkit as if for his approval that it was a good plan.
Earthstar padded around the camp, head buzzing with too many insistent thoughts to be able to concentrate on more than one thing. And that thing was Snowstar. His dear Snowstar - they were to have their first heart-to-heart talk in far too long; or so it seemed to Earthstar. What would he say? His behavior at the Apprentice Contest was less than satisfactory but that stinking Oakpaw had deserved every… Earthstar exhaled slowly, letting his shoulders slump and his tail droop to the floor. Hopefully there would be no need for words, Snowstar had never needed them before. He had much to tell her; about how little Heatherkit was growing up so fast and he would have questions about Kestrelkit and the others just in case she had heard from them. And of course there was also the question; when to tell them? Earthstar wished they would just know so he didn’t need to pretend he wasn’t interested in Heatherkit all his life but he wouldn’t have to do the incredibly awkward - tell her who her real parents were. And how would she react? She seemed so happy and settled with the thought that Tigerlily and Eagletalon were her parents. Oh how would he ever tell her? Padding out of the camp, Earthstar could stand the lack of action no longer. When he came back he might send out a patrol or something…but first… =) { Sorry - had to do that. xD } Moving noiselessly through the Lakeclan territory Earthstar looked at all the familiar sights and breathed in deeply, opening his mouth so the Lakeclan scents could flood his scent glands. Wait - what was that? It wasn’t Lakeclan although Earthstar could smell something a little like Tigerlily mixed up in the scent. His ears flicked towards the trees, but much as he tried to go over his paws seemed to have a different idea. It wouldn’t be anything - just Tigerlily hunting and maybe meeting another clan cat. Normally Earthstar would have gone and scraped the face off whoever it was but today he wasn’t in the mood. It wasn’t Snowstar - and that was all that mattered to him. Settling down at the border, the great tabby shook his head, the scent already clearing from his nostrils. There wouldn’t be anything to worry about, especially not when Snowstar arrived.

|ooc| Fudgester. Falconkit is a she-cat. Not a tomcat, you silly peep. xo
|bic| Falconkit's eyes shone with hardly contained excitement, literally bouncing up and down jubilantly. Yeah! They should definitely follow their mother and hunt for themselves too! And probably get something for their Clan as well, to show that they weren't as helpless as they appeared to be -- kits could do something productive like any warrior or leader or medicine cat or apprentice! "I say that we follow Tigerlily!" she yowled quietly in glee, spinning around in a circle. "Dad isn't really watching us anyway: he's too preoccupied staring out of camp!" And it was true. Sneaking a glance at her father, she thankfully found that the brown-and-white warrior was still glowering blankly, not at all paying attention to his kits as he should. "Let's go now while we have the chance! No cat is really paying us much attention." With a small flick of her tail toward both sisters and brother, the kit slinked out of the camp, victorious. She had made it without any problem! Waiting for her brother and sisters, Falconkit gazed around her newfound surroundings. Simply amazing!
Adrenaline pumping through her veins, Tigerlily straightened up proudly, the mouse she had managed to catch dangling between her jaws. It was just simply great to be up and about again, feeling the grass between her claws and pads, the breeze through her fur, and the astounding feeling of the hunt. Turning to pad off, she paused, her ears flattening at a malevolent presence. She never usually felt like this when she hunted, did she? Blinking, she laid her catch down slowly, wheeling around just as a hiss broke out from above her, and a flurry of fur was on top of her. Knocked to the ground, she felt her breath leave her and she gasped for breath, attempting to kick her attacker off her with her hindlegs.
Wrath snarled in a battle-craze, his jade orbs glinting with the powerful rush of the kill and fight. It seemed that he had a fighter on his paws. The she-cat underneath him managed to heave him off, and with a furious yowl, the rogue skidded back, glaring malignantly at the LakeClan queen, who staggered to her paws and panted in ragged breaths. He'd make sure he took the Clan cat down. Arching his back in a hiss, he leaped forward, slashing at Tigerlily with unsheathed claws. He made a connection with her face, and she recoiled, her face red with her own blood. Wrath noticed that she furtively started to back up, and he laughed derisively. "No you don't, kitty! I've got you where I want you!" Cackling under his breath, he pounced forward nimbly, landing on the too-slow-to-react she-cat in triumph. As she fell to the ground under his weight, he put his muzzle to her ear, smirking all the while. "Nighty night." Without hesitation, he landed a killing bite to the neck, leaving the queen limp beneath him.
|ooc| Meh. That didn't sound so well. --;

ooc: Not another one dead! They're dropping like flies!
Tigerkit and Lionkit stirred sleepily from where they had been curled, twined around each other, in the corner of the nursery. They yawned sleepily together, before simulantiously rolling to their feet. They'd been sleeping a long time. They might have had a touch of sun-fever but it had vanished now after Barkfoot's gentle care. Tigerkit stared around for his siblings ((*cough* *cough*)) as Lionkit leant dreamily against his side.
Barkfur rose from her fitful sleep in the warriors den after an exhausting night spent tending to her kits. Shiningfrost had been too busy to see them. This irritated her a lot now she came to think of it. Shiningfrost always seemed to have higher things on her mind. Her kits should be the whole clan's priority, she thought angrily. She stalked outside, nodding a brusque greeting to the cats sitting there and, without really thinking, wandered straight into the forest. She let her feet take her before she came to the border. Then she heard yowls. She began to run, and burst in to the grizzly scene, almost skidding into Wrath.

Nightfire glanced around the empty camp as she padded back from the apprentice contest.Poor Banditpaw not being able to take part. She thought to herself and then saw Tigerlilly leave for some hunting.Thinking about joining she hesitated and then glanced around the camp.Nobody is here. They won't miss me if I leave. She thought again and then flicked her tail in the air and then ran after the queen into the forest. After a few minutes of running she stopped and panted. Her gaze went from one place to another. She then let all the scents. She then stopped for a moment and opened her eyes. Two scents bothered her.One of blood and the other of something she did not know of. Quickly she sprang to her paws and ran towards Tigerlily's scent and saw how she got killed. She then looked at Wrath and hissed "You'll pay for that rogue!"She unseathed her claws and scraped them on the ground. She then jumped toward Tigerlily's body and hissed again at him her fur on end.
