Pridekit yawned, showing rows of new, pointy and gleaming white teeth which sparkled and shone in the warm light of the evening sun. Heatherkit, her sister lay by her side, one paw on Pridekit’s ebony back. Usually Pridekit would have rolled over to try and tackle her sister, but not today, not when it was so hot and peaceful. All of the kits were peaceful at the moment as the warm August rolled into even warmer September. It was true that already it was starting to get dark earlier, but there were still many more hours of things to do left in today…maybe later, Pridekit thought. Heatherkit twitched beside her and fondly Pridekit licked her on the cheek. Little did either Pridekit, or Heatherkit - or any of Pridekit’s /real/ siblings, Lustkit and Falconkit, know - that Heatherkit was not really their sister. A new addition to Tigerlily and Eagletalon’s litter when Pridekit was barely a day old - Heatherkit was actually the kit of Earthstar, Lakeclan’s leader and Snowstar - Dreamclan’s leader. Not even Tigerlily, the queen whom the kit had been thrust upon by Earthstar knew, the secret was safe with Earthstar, Shiningfrost and Snowstar, the Dreamclan medicine cat Scarletvixen and deputy Silverfang having died shortly after they found out. The whole turn of events was laced with treachery and deceit…but the kits weren’t to know that - all they knew was comfort, safety and lovely evening sun…
However of course - peace in Lakeclan could not last long with slightly mad leader Earthstar in the high chair. ”Get over here you useless furballs” he growled bad-temperedly from atop the high rock which stood in the centre of the clan, bathed in lorry by the dusty and sandy floor all around it. Apparently having his first mate since the tragic and untimely demise of his childhood haunt Heatherpaw and four beautiful kits did not improve his temper. If anything, he seemed /more/ troubled than before, yet nothing escaped his lips, only his eyes. ”Right clan” he began, addressing the cats crawling sleepily out from the apprentice den which lay to the left-hand side of the camp, a small hollow inside a gorse bush, the warriors den; which was a larger clearing made up of small trees and bushes and from around the thicket edges of the camp. The cats resting inside the nursery {shielded slightly by an ancient fallen log} stayed put however, only on the rarest of occasions did they attend clan meetings. ”Right hairballs” Earthstar began again, spitting bad temperedly as if all of his problems were each and every clan members fault - ”There’s the first Apprentice Contest in a few days and I’ll tell you the cats attending now so you don’t go and put yourself somewhere else and can train up in whatever time we have left.” His eyes narrowed as he remembered last gathering where most of his clan had been elsewhere…and two of which had been dead. ”The cats doing the activities shall be ” he paused, thinking hard. In actual fact he knew nothing about the apprentices, how good they were and how good they were at the things he was about to choose for them. Oh well - 'Trial and error Earthstar' he told himself, lip curling at the word error. ”Stripepaw shall be doing the fighting” Earthstar spoke clearly. He had picked Stripepaw for the fighting because she was the oldest, most experianced and hopefully bigger than her opponent. ”Banditpaw shall be hunting” Earthstar said even more loudly, as if trying to tell all the cats that he was /right/ and there was no need for discussion. Which left Walnutpaw. He was weedy and tended to trip over his feet alot...oh Fireclan - "Walnutpaw, you're going to be tree-climbing." There...that should do. He was only entering three apprentices because Lakeclan only had three apprentices. That meant he was in with a lesser chance of winning than clans that had enetered all five competetions...but if Lakeclan /won/ those three - they might well win. Earthstar smiled happily at the thought. "Well go on mentors" he snapped bad temperdly, looking at Nightfire and Cornflower. "Oh - and Ravenfur - teach Walnutpaw for me." Eagletalon was ill-disposed at the moment.
At once Walnutpaw leapt to his feet and began running in tiny circles. Him, representing the clan…him! But Walnutpaw… said a voice in his head. So are Banditpaw and Stripepaw. ”Yeah but still” Walnutpaw said aloud, but quietly so any cats who were passing wouldn’t think he was talking to himself. ”He didn’t /need/ to pick me.” In his happiness he didn’t bother thinking about the fact that Earthstar would have enlisted the kits if he were allowed, happy to savour the memory he already had. ”Hey Banditpaw” he mewed, looking around for Ravenfur as he bounced towards his friend. ”Hunting eh…well, I’m tree-climbing.” He spoke as if it was the highest of honours to be tree-climbing for your clan.
Cornflower chuckled as she looked at them, pressing her muzzle against Thunderfoot’s flank and savoring the scent of her mate. ”Look at them” she breathed, watching Walnutpaw and Banditpaw. ”We can watch the apprentice contest…I’m sure they’ll need…” She broke off, staring at the ground. ”Oh yeah…uh…Thunderfoot.” It felt wrong to say it after what she had just said. ”I need to train Stripepaw.” She had been almost glad her apprentice had been in the medicine cat den, much as she loathed to say it however. It gave her private time with Thunderfoot and although Cornflower knew that Stripepaw would happily fade into the background it wasn’t fair. ”Yes - I need to go and prepare her for hunting” Cornflower mewed determinedly, not looking at Thunderfoot. ”Stripepaw” she called in a voice nearly as carrying as Earthstar’s. She looked back at Thunderfoot. ”You don’t mind do you?”

;;thunderfoot Thunderfoot had had a smile upon his face, but when she stood it quickly faded into a slight frown before her. He'd been about to say it, he had those three words that she'd wanted to hear the past three moons within his own head. And either he'd just blown it, or she had. Thunderfoot wanted to scream in rage at her, but he was not that type - and besides, he was way smarter than that. "No, that's fine - Cornflower," He thought of how to finish it. There were about millions of different ways, three of which he was debating on. 'I know Stripepaw is more important than me, go ahead.' or 'That's fine, bye.', but maybe even.... "Alright, Cornflower, I'm going to go hunting for a while anyway. I need to be alone for a little while, get my thoughts straight." He did not smile when he said this, he just turned and walked away. He couldn't believe he was mad at her for this, but he could be! Earthstar didn't say 'Cornflower, leave your mate when he's about to say something really important so you can go train your dang apprentice!' Clueless Thunderfoot, worrying about the last person that needed to be.[/blockquote] ;;shiningfrost Her blue eyes swam with different emotions, most of which were unreadable. Of the threesome, Shiningfrost was clearly the best at keeping their secret. She was also used for showing sympathy and delivering advice towards the couple - but most importantly preventing them from running off the SunClan or Boulderclan to check on their kits. No, of course that wouldn't be appropriate. She noticed Earthstar, yet again, hiding his troubles with anger. He'd thrown away Walnutpaw, even as Eagletalon was still the mentor, it'd curently been Earthstar's responsibility ( correct? =P ). Unable to help herself, Shiningfrost hurried over to Earthstar below the rock before he ran off to the solitary of his den once more. "What is it this time?" She asked, no hint of complaining in her voice, just concern. "Heatherkit, Snowstar? Well?" She asked, waiting. ooc - I LUFF MY LONG POSTS, WEE

Tigerkit and Lionkit sauntered through the clearing, the red sun lighting their coats so that they blazed like twin flames. Lionkit said nothing, just kept lifting his paws gently up and down with his ears raised, listening patiently to Tigerkit’s prattle. From where Barkfur sat, she could not hear her child’s words, just the high hum of his kittish voice, punctuated with little squeaks and mews of laughter. The corners of Lionkit’s mouth turned upwards in an indulgent smile. At that moment Barkfoot felt truly blissful, content to stay in the cool shadows of the nursery and watch her four kits growing up. Four. Barkfoot lowered her muzzle to her folded paws. She’d been the mother of five once. Poor Pumakit. It was this thought that roused her to her feet. She padded over to Earthstar, and laid back her ears respectfully. “A minute of your time?”

Earthstar looked at Shiningfrost, his white eyes rolling angrily and bared his teeth quickly before turning to Barkfur, a pained expression that might have just been recognizable as comfort and encouragement flitting across his face. ”Yes…” he growled, barely keeping the grumbling edge from his voice. ”What do you want.” He knew that he had to be nice to the queen, common courtesy told him this. She had lost one of her litter last moon and was still grieving him. He did not however extend this practice to the medicine cat - she would have to be content with a snarl and a grunt.
Sneaking a look over at Thunderfoot as he padded away from camp, Cornflower chewed her lip unhappily. He had seemed happy… ”Oh Starclan I wish I was a bit better at this!” Cornflower cursed aloud, but quietly so Stripepaw wouldn’t think something was odd. ”Stripepaw - we’ll practice here” Cornflower told her apprentice, noticing that night was falling and there was no sign of the moon - that meant the Apprentice Contest was tonight. ”Excited?” she asked her apprentice, smiling as she settled herself down. If she focused her mind on something else, Thunderfoot didn’t obscure all her thoughts. ”Okay Stripepaw” she mewed, looking at her apprentice who was now almost as big as her. ”Try and strike me.”
”I wanna go to the ‘pprentice Contest” mewed Heatherkit sulkily, padding over to Lionkit and sitting on his tail. ”It’s not fair” echoed Pridekit, looking around for her brother and sister to moan with too. ”I mean - I’m /just/ as good as Banditpaw and Stripepaw and Walnutpaw” Heatherkit continued, looking up at Earthstar through sulky, narrow eyes. ”I would do…seeking.” ”Seeking’s a soft option” Pridekit scoffed, batting Heatherkit gently with her paws. ”That’s why you’d do it. I’d do …fishing!” Heatherkit batted her adopted sister back again, looking at Tigerkit. ”What ‘bout you?”

Barkfoot briefly ignored the antics of the kits as she spoke to Earthstar. "Please give me permission to leave the Nursery. My kits are weaned, and no longer have need of me every day. Although I realise that the kits are still my duty, my heart aches, and wishes to be a warrior again. Please let me hunt. Please let me patrol, even if only at Sunhigh."
Tigerkit looked down at Pridekit. "We'd fight," he replied immediately, swelling up his tiny chest. Again, lionkit smiled his indulgent smile, lowering his eyes shyly away from his brother and towards Heatherkit. He combed the fur on the top of her head with his tongue. Tigerkit began squaring up to Pridekit. "I'm getting really good now! Want to see?"

;;thunderfoot Thunderfoot, for the first time in almost all his life, was showing signs of intelligence. He actually knew what a she-cat was thinking, for the first time since birth. He couldn't help but smile within the forest, realizing swiftly that he would never mess up with Cornflower - he knew what to do and what not to do. He wished she could do the same with him, but toms seemed to be more complicated - in a she-cat's mind. "I love you, Cornflower. Will you be my mate? Simple as that." He nodded to himself, knowing these words must be said. Thunderfoot had repeatedly said he liked her, but the word love had never been used. Normally, as he'd observed, loving someone was a must before asking them to be your mate. He wished Cornflower had known that sooner, or maybe she would've been....he didn't know, his mind was clogged.
;;shiningfrost Shiningfrost smiled slyly and nodded to herself, whispering one word that only Earthstar could hear. "Both." Normally, a snarl meant Heatherkit and a grunt meant Snowstar. In this case, both. She sighed and walked away, disappearing into the dim depths of her den. Thoughts ran through her mind - she wanted to see Snowstar again as well, and Earthstar was in need of a little happiness - but he would see her tomorrow.

ooc: Howdy! Yes, I've joined Lakeclan. With Ashfeather, my new charrie. Here's his pic.: (It's really awesome!- I thinkxP) bic: Ashfeather sat quietly near the entrance of the warrior's den, observing the clan cats through his apple green eyes. Earthstar had seemed especially angry tonight. Ashfeather gave his smoky grew paw a few thoughtful licks. It was understandable, he supposed, for the leader to be in such a bad temper. After all, he was going through a lot. Nevertheless, his pride took over and he became slightly agitated. He, for one, had not enjoyed being called a "furball" and "hairball", especially by his leader. Shrugging he got up and stretched in the slowly dying warmth of another evening in Lakeclan. Flicking his tail he looked about camp, trying to find something to do, as he hadn't an apprentice. "Yet." he thought to himself with a slight smile. ooc: Uuuuuugh I'm going through very bad ill-literacy right now... sorry Oh! By the way- anybody want to be Ashy's sibling? I haven't created them, I'll leave that to you

ooc - two things: 1. Pebblebrook will NOT have a bio. She's just going to mysteriously die after three moons, leaving Oatpaw all alone. 2. I'll be Ashy's sibling! Sister or Brother? Sister name - Willowstorm Brother name - Hollowvale BTW, they're both incredibly wicked and evil.

;;shiningfrost ooc - aww, go ahead! i have too many charries anyway (:
bic - Shiningfrost set the kit down gently on a patch of moss, smiling as it slept. She gave LIghtningkit a soft, comforting lick to the ear and treated him with herbs so that he wouldn't get sick, and a few so that he could make it with her to get back. She purred and then changed her expressions to a serious one, hurrying outside. She saw Earthstar talking to Barkfur, and she rushed behind him and hissed in his ear while the queen was talking. If you want to see your kit, he's in my den!" She smiled, she'd used plenty of emphasis on 'he's.' Heatherkit wasn't a boy. Wait - no, Shiningfrost had checked before. (XD)

Willowkit and Dawnbreeze travelled all the way to the entrance of Lakeclan camp. They looked at each other, unsure of what to do. It was too late to go back now. "I"ll go first," Willowkit volunteered. Dawnbreeze opened her mouth to object, but the calico she-cat just shook her head. "I'll seem less threatening than you. If you hear me call, come in."
Dawnbreeze gave her kit a lick on the head, purring quietly before Willowkit padded through the entrance to Lakeclan camp. The cats in this clan smelled so differently from her own, but she could pick up on Lightningkit's scent easily.
