"Yes, but not for long." came Mintstar's short reply, tail swishing side-to-side in a content sort of way. It was one of those days. "How may I help you Oakpaw?" she asked, with a slight touch of impatience. She needed to report who would attend the gathering, and before so straighten out the apprentices and mentors. Mintstar was an irritating cat to talk to; it was obvious she was not paying attention. Her eyes flicked and when they returned to the speaker, it was only for her to drop back into thought and-not intentionally-tune out the words.

Paintedpaw grunted as a ‘yes’ and took off, pitching his weight from his back legs to his front legs, powering himself forward a few extra inches as he had taught himself to do. As his heavy paws thudded against the ground they left little dents in the patches of earth, but simply bounced off the rockier surfaces. He could see the white tail of the rabbit flashing in front of them, its tiny eyes rolling as it hammering along, trying to outrun the two pursuers behind it. Like all rabbits around this area it was very scrawny and long-legged, but this was good for Boulderclan. They took any meat whenever they could get it. Inch by inch they caught up with it, Paintedpaw was panting despite himself but the rabbit looked worse, not able to run in a straight line anymore. Jaypaw was just beside him, he could pounce now and risk it slipping away or he could wait a few heartbeats more and risk Jaypaw catching it… He decided on the latter, gritting his teeth.

Jaypaw bounded along behind Paintedpaw, slowly gaining on the other apprentice. Then, suddenly, he tripped. An agonising pain shot through his ankle and up his leg. His leg buckled, and he bounced over the tussoky grass, feeling his ribs bashed and bruised by the sharp stones and bare earth on the ground. He gasped in pain, attempting to muffle the sound. His sharp teeth bit hard into his lip.

"Are you going to announce who is going to the apprentice contest?Ohh and have you seen Coldheart anywhere?I can't find him."She mewed to Miststar hearing that she was impatient and wanting to do something that she didn't know. Oakpaw moved her tail slightly and waited. [/size]

Paintedpaw leapt forward in a huge bound and caught the rabbit between his front paws, crushing its back-bone in one single thrust of his paw. He looked back at Jaypaw writhing on the floor with no pity in his steel grey eyes. Warriors suffered alone. Swinging the dead rabbit in his jaws he ripped it in half, leaving the scrawnier end for Jaypaw. Although Paintedpaw's manners were about as existent as his mentor he still had a shred of common courtesy left in him - enough to leave a little prey for his companion anyway. As he devoured the rabbit he did not mentally congratulate himself, instead chiding himself for not catching it sooner. He had to try harder. He had to do better. "Can you train?" he grunted, shaking back the mane of grey, black and white fur that cloaked his face as he steadied himself. There was no need to go back to camp anymore.

Sunlight filtered through the protective covering the Apprentices' Den had to offer, rudely startling the sleeping apprentice inside. The tawny, black-splotched tom was still on the drowsy side, his ice-blue orbs slitted and half-lidded, attempting to readjust and to blot out the brilliant light at the same time. The spiteful apprentice muttered something incoherent under his breath out of irritation. He didn't want to wake up now. Why couldn't he just sleep? Stupid light. Simpering, Cheetahpaw curled into a tense ball, wrapping his black-tipped tail around and draping it over his blunt snout. Closing his eyes with a sigh, he almost drifted off to sleep once more, yet his eyelids snapped open at a passing thought. The Apprentice Contest. How in StarClan could he have forgotten the dumb contest? Or a better question; how mouse-brained was he? Immediately the apprentice sprung up from his balled position, flexing the muscles in his shoulders and sheathing and unsheathing his black claws in relish. Perhaps now was the time to badger Mintstar, ask if he were capable enough to enter a contest in the upcoming Apprentice Contest. Heart aflutter with hardly compressed excitement, the lithe cat trotted out of the den, in an unusally good mood. Licking his lips, he bounded towards Mintstar, skidding to a stop just as Coldheart stepped in his way, casting him a chagrined glance. What did the malicious cat want? "Whaaaat?" Cheetahpaw pressed impatiently, literally bouncing from paw to paw in a hurry to reach his mentor and leader. "Nothing. Just stopping you for a second to wonder why all cats above are you practically floundering around like a fish out of water?" the black-and-white cat asked simply, the vexed look in his own blue eyes not even attempted to keep hidden. "Anyway, I want to speak with Mintstar myself -- concerning that dreaded Coldbreath." The warrior spat out his rival's name in contempt, nose wrinkling as if he could smell the other warrior's putrid stink. "Oh. I see." Gazing at Coldheart with a calculating expression, the apprentice merely shrugged. "Alright, then. You speak with her first, I guess." Coldheart narrowed his eyes at the younger cat suspiciously, trying to figure out why the Kittypet hating apprentice was giving in so readily; it was unlike him, and the older tom had every right to be suspicious of the fact. Of course, he didn't know that Cheetahpaw was just interested to hear how the conversation concerning Coldbreath would turn out. "Whatever." His orbs lingering on the tawny cat for a moment longer, he turned and headed for Mintstar, pointedly ignoring the steps behind him that so clearly belonged to Cheetahpaw. Pretending he didn't see Oakpaw, he spoke directly to his leader. "Mintstar. What is going to be done about the exile, Coldbreath?"
It was so hard to believe that Pebblekit was gone. The deputy had felt so attached to the young kit, and it was cruel to see her mangled body, lifeless, taken away by a vicious, ruthless killer like Coldbreath. Kit killer. It sounded just right, rolled off the speaker's tongue with ease. It fitted the malevolent cat perfectly, suited him. Two months had passed, and Crimsonaura hadn't fared all that well. Her flame-coloured fur, usually so kept and lustrous, was dishevelled and unkept, the utter opposite. What did it matter anymore? Vainness did no good, and it didn't matter to her as well as it used to. Lifting her head groggily, the she-cat lumbered to her paws unsteadily, walking past Snakecharm without even noticing the tom-cat and stepping out into the camp. Her ears flickered to the left and right, picking up conversing tones and light snores from inside the safety of the dens. What did it matter? Gazing about, her eyes came to a stop on Mintstar, and she strode forward deliberately -- only because she saw Coldheart pad up to her and call the leader's name...and mention Coldbreath. This intrigued her exquisitively, and she decided to hear it out. It sounded as if it would be fairly interesting, on the terms it was about the kit killer.

Oakpaw glanced at Coldheart who seemed to come over.She wanted to yell at him asking where the hell he's been but it never left her mouth,but instead her tail flicked annouyingly as he ignored her totally as if she were a pile of dung sitting their waiting for somebody to take her away A growl rose in her throat as her brown pelt bristled a bit but too little for even the experienced warrior to notice.Her sharp claws dug into the earth and once both these conversations were over she would give him a piece of her mind. Where has he been all this time!The stupid fox dung cat called a warrior!She thought to herself as she saved all her rage for him alone.Probably gone to find Coldbreath just like everybody else.Its Coldbreath this and Coldbreath that now and nothing else.I can't wait till this conversation is over the stupid mentor.That thought finished her off as she unseathed her claws again into the dirt and moved them back as she made a whole in the ground.Just you wait. ooc; o-O;; I cannot believe how much stuff I've had to do lately.
ic;
"I will discuss the Apprentice Contest with your mentors--" began Mintstar confidently, about to answer the second question before the warrior in question approached with another set of problems for her to work through. "--if I could even get to the Highstone..." she said, finishing her sentence and turning to Coldheart. "Coldbreath is the past--and although it has a tendency to repeat itself, for now we can only wait, watch, then move on, hopefully like what Coldbreath should have done; left. It is clear to the clan that he is to be killed with contact; there is nothing else we can do."
Without another word to either, Mintstar ran lightly to the highrock, mentally going over the announcements formulating in her head. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneth the highstone for a clan meeting!" she yowled, watching shapes move to gather under the smooth rock where she perched.
"Willowkit, will you please approach the Highstone?" asked Mintstar, a feeling of content filling her with happiness; new apprentices made a healthier, better clan. But no Willowkit approached. Mintstar, impatient and irratable, dismissed the thought and moved on, calling out a simple command. "Cheetahpaw, will you retrieve Willowkit please?" she said, flicking her tail dismissively. Why could nothing ever go smoothly? The kit was probably off for a stroll with Dawnbreeze, else out of camp sneaking off. Sigh.
"Will all mentors gather to discuss the coming Apprentice contest?"
The clear dismissal left the warriors with mentors behind alone. "Right then; does any mentor find their apprentices particularilly skilled at a certain task, or is this bunch nothing more than average?" Mintstar snapped, stressed and slightly angry at how her clan was treating her like Starclan; able to solve all problems. She snorted softly, waiting for mentors to exclaim about how fantastic(thanks to their great teachers, of course) their apprentices were.
(Sorry Fudgey, but I can't find who to give Paintedpaw to; the remaining warriors are unactive. Can we do cat sweeps soon? XD And Jaypaw doesn't want a mentor, riiigghhht? o-O)

That was all they were to do? Sit around and do nothing while they knew full well that Coldbreath was out there, biding his time for who knows when? Coldheart huffed, unsatisfied with the answer he had been given. He didn't want to sit around and do nothing. He wanted to get out there, hunt down that stupid furball, and rid of him before then. Shouldering the thought aside, the black-and-white tom bounded off to Highrock and sat down patiently by its base, all the while gazing up at his leader. The ears atop his head twitched slightly at the mention of the Apprentice Contest, and he silently glowered at Oakpaw. He supposed that his apprentice was fit for one of the contests; possibly the Fighting category would suffice for the hot-head. Clearing his throat, Coldheart responded with a loud meow, "I believe that Oakpaw would be suited for the Fighting category; her skills in the area are more than satisfactory." Nodding in silent agreement to himself, the warrior roved his gaze around the assembled cats.
Disgruntled, Cheetahpaw followed after Coldheart to Highrock with a sideways glance to Oakpaw. Trailing his eyesight back to Mintstar, his jaw dropped. He had to search for the stupid kit who decided to meager off by herself? Muttering darkly under his breath, the tawny apprentice meowed an audible, "Will do, Mintstar" sarcastically, pelting out of the camp in frustration. Bah. This really sucked foxdung. Sniffing about, he tripped over an upturned root from a nearby tree and skidded onto his face. Well, he guessed that's what he deserved for not paying attention. Spitting dirt out from his mouth angrily, he pounced to his paws, suddenly catching a lingering scent that belonged to not one, but two cats. Blinking, for he recognized that they belonged to both Dawnbreeze and the annoying kit Willowkit, he sprinted off after it, balking at the borderline of BoulderClan and LakeClan. Whiskers quivering, he turned tail back for camp, furious. Nice. Just nice.

"Fine." said Mintstar, realizing with a quick pang of guilt that she could not tell whether Oakpaw was fit, as a leader should. Boulderclan were heavily built anyhow. "How about... Daypaw does hiding. She's intelligent enough to be good at such." said Mintstar, not waiting for any more comments. They needed to go go go... "Then Jaypaw can do Tree-climbing..." she continued slowly, thinking apon his flexible moves when fighting, hoping the agility would help him.
"And Cheetahpaw can do fishing, as he finds normal tasks too simple for him. Crimsonaura, please lead the group to the apprentice ceremony; only the mentioned apprentices and mentors please." without another word, the feline whisked off.
