--title from the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland--
The sun rose slowly, like a fiery furball coughed up uneasily onto a sky-blue carpet by a giant unseen cat. The bringing of dawn was addressed with a flick of a white tail, followed by a series of other movements that brought on the awakening of the female feline as a stormy eyes cracked open, pupils protesting to the sudden encounter of light.
Coldbreath...
The thought got the leader up in an instant, fur beginning to bristle at the murder of a kit, the ex-Boulderclan cat and the patrol she had sent after him.
Her dreams had been haunted and confused. Being shoved into the leader position on the same day that a Medicine Cat had committed suicide was not fun. Having a lying, traitorous cheat of a cat attempting to murder two Dreamclan kits while she was receiving her nine lives was not the best way to begin her position. But that was going to change.
To start-a medicine cat. Daypaw, although her skills were useful, was needed as a warrior. Apprentices were mentor-less, kits breaching the six moon marks. But that was going to change.
Coldbreath would die. The apprentice training would be sped up. Boulderclan would not be weak. There was several pieces of news that needed to be handed over at the gathering, but when the weakness points were submitted it would be obvious that Boulderclan had recovered and would not be accepting anything other than utter respect; and even, if possible, fealty.
Care killed the cat.

;;lightningkit Lightningkit groaned, complaining to Dawnbreeze as usual. He constantly wished he could just be an apprentice like his 'sister', Willowkit - or soon-to-be paw. He had opened his eyes, he could walk and speak in full and complete sentences now - though he was not quite weaned for he was only two moons old. "Moomm, I should be an apprentice, not Willowkit!" He groaned, slumping down and huffing angrily. He thought Willowkit was incredibly beautiful - and though he was handsome, it made him jealous. His ears flattened against his skull and he began picking at his claws again. This was an incredibly nasty habit of his, Lightningkit picking at clawing at his own claws. Occasionally he bled, occasionally he shredded a claw - but the difficulty of constantly being by his mother's side was that she always forced him to stop by holding his paws down. "How old am I?" He asked, for the billionth time. He asked this every day, counting down until he was an apprentice - and it was probably getting on Dawnbreeze's nerves.

Dawnbreeze looked down at Lightningkit with practiced patience. She had been through this all with Willowkit. "You're still only two moons old Thunderkit," she meowed, her ear twitching. "Soon enough you'll be apprenticed, but you have to be patient." he noticed he was picking at his claws again. growl rose in her throat as she swatted at her adopted son. Stop that!" she snapped, green eyes glowing.
Willowkit had been snuffling through the pile of fresh-kill, looking anxiously into the darkness of Mintstar's den. She was a bit past six moons now, overdue for her apprenticeship in her opinion. d she wanted to compete in the apprentice competition, badly, but knew it was probably too late and that the real apprentices had been chosen already. Frustration pricked at her belly as her claws dug into the dirt beneath her paws. Picking up a fat vole, she padded back into the nursery just in time to see Dawnbreeze reprimand Lightningkit. "He tearing his claws apart again?" she mewed, setting the vole down in front of her mother. Willowkit knew that Dawnbreeze only got vicious with Lightningkit when he started causing himself harm.

Jaypaw was back in the clearing where he had stood and faced Coldbreath two months ago, and once again Paintedpelt was with him. This time however, he was clear headed, cool, and calculating. Nearing eight moons now, Jaypaw was built powerfully, and every sleek line in his body emanated strength and skill. You’d never guess he had no mentor. No, not even Coldbreath, who had bullied the madness from his brain. He did not want one. He had no need of one. They had parted before the moon had fully waxed. He settled back into a crouch, green eyes clear and steady as he faced Paintedpelt. The emerald sparkled and flashed for a moment as he spoke. “Hit me!” The pair trained together, and had done so since they realised that in the great mentoring scheme of things they had been overlooked. They were good, but could never quite reach a warrior’s standard. They were powerful and stealthy but had no technique. They fought like loners.
ooc: I have made a big fuss about him not having a mentor. HE DOES NOT WANT ONE. Please keep him overlooked! *puppy eyes*

Paintedpaw looked at Jaypaw through slitted eyes, the muscles bulging on his frame. In fact - he was not that strong or muscley, but all this staying away from camp and training didn’t allow much time for eating. Paintedpaw was dimly aware that today there was an Apprentice Contest and his lip curled ever so slightly. A puny contest for the weak forest cats. He was not interested although he may have excelled in his chosen category. ’I’ll let the other squirts at camp do it’ he told himself, curling his lip even more as he thought about this. Paintedpaw had changed in these two moons. His lack of mentor and the way the clan treated him as if he was only a spare part had made him angry and even more determined to be the best - to do better - to work harder. This was his motto. I must do better. I must work harder. He lunged forwards at Jaypaw, striking him a glancing blow on the shoulder. Moons of training with his new partner had taught him that Jaypaw was not weak. In fact - Paintedpaw did not even feel bad about striking one of his companions with all the anger bubbling up inside him, however he would not go so far as to actually properly /hurt/ them as Coldbreath had done. He had aimed low, so it would stop too much movement and the possibility of Jaypaw jumping away at the last minute. ”That good?” Paintedpaw chuckled gruffly, steeling himself. ”Hit me” he echoed, eyes narrowing again. He cleansed his muscles tightly. I must do better. I must work harder.
Falconwing padded through the camp giving haughty looks to all the cats around her. She did not like the attitude with which the cats were talking about Coldbreath with. As if he were dead. He would not be dead, Falconwing knew him far too well to believe foolish thoughts like that. And although he wished every hair on his back dead and she to be the one to do it - she still didn’t like the other cats disrespecting him. Coldbreath and the hunt surrounding him seemed to have become something of a competition to the more bloodthirsty of the Boulderclan cats. Who could find Coldbreath? Who could kill him? Who could hate him the most? She chuckled, shooting a cruel glare at Snakecharm who flattened his ears but also his tail, crawling in submission into the warriors den. The warrior Snakecharm did not belong in this clan. He did not seek battles. He did not want to argue. He was weak. That was what it was. Falconwing saw movement and sighted the white she-cat Mintstar approaching the highrock. What now?

;;lightningkit LIGHTNINGKIT ( easy mistake for you =P )groaned and huffed as his mother held his claws down so that he could not pick, and frankly it was truly starting to annoy him that he kept doing it. He was worried or nervous, possibly even suspicious when he did it. Dawnbreeze and Willowkit looked nothing like him! He was orange with grey ears - and his eyes, his eyes were like Earthstar's, so some said. Sometimes, when he was alone within the nursery, he liked to pretend that Earthstar, the mighty and ferocious, was his father. And, maybe, the beautiful and shy Snowstar was his mother? But this was just a fantasy, even if playing it was the most fun he had, the one thing he looked forward to. "I want to be in the apprentice contest too! And how can I not complain, mama? I'm stuck inside this nursery for six moons! The farthest I've gone so far is a few feet away from the nursery, and I didn't even get to see anything then!" He knew he had to wait another moon and a half - when he was weaned, before he could go outside and stroll around camp. This angered him, and these three and a half moons stuck in the nursery got boring, a lot.

ooc// Ahh, my bad! Accept my apologies, I fixed the post.
Dawnbreeze sighed, licking LIGHTNINGkit comfortingly on the head with her rough tongue. "Soon enough, little one, soon enough." Willowkit's ear twitched sympathetically, relating. She too, had wanted out as soon as possible, and was still waiting! Shaking her head, she bite into the vole, leaving most of it for Dawnbreeze to finish off. "May I go and visit the apprentices?" she mewed quietly. Dawnbreeze nodded and the pretty she-kit immediatly exited the nursery. Looking around, her head dropped when she saw that there were barely any apprentices that were actually awake and in camp. "So much for that," she muttered darkly to herself.

Jaypaw's knees locked backwards, and he found that he had to exectute a sort of roll to unstick them. "That was not me falling over," he grunted as he got back to his pads, leaves and dirt clinging to the tips of his fur. He stepped backwards, before wheeling around and charging at his battlemate. He launched himself upwards, and as he sailed over the other cat's head brought both paws down as he passed over the top of Paintedpaw's head. The tap was gentle, barely enough to force the skull down, but after he had clumsily landed ,he gave the benefit of explaining. "It's meant to take you by suprise. Were you preparing for a charge?" His green eyes sparkled excitedly. "Done at the base of the neck, I reckon it could stun!"

Paintedpaw shot an appreciative look at Jaypaw. ”Not bad, good technique, I’ll remember that.” He did not resent his partner for thinking of the new move first as some more amateur apprentices might have done. He was past that stage although he did remind himself to keep working and think of another move too. I must do better. ”So Jaypaw…return to camp?” Paintedpaw suggested, shaking his head vigorously so the grey and white fur unstuck itself from his head a little. There was nothing back at camp for them but much as he would have liked too, not even he could train for all day without eating. But one day he would reach that stage… Power without sustenance. Then he and Jaypaw would truly be the best warriors in the mountains. I must try harder.

Jaypaw nodded, stomach growling. He growled himself to disguise it. He had overslept and left no time for breakfast. His constant tiredness was a problem he could not overcome, but he did not mind too much. It let him rest, to be in prime form for the next fight. As he turned his steps back through the gathering gloom he spotted a flash of white on the path ahead. A rabbit scut! He gestured to the little beast as he turned to his Paintedpaw. "Shall we race to catch it?" Everything was a competition.

;;lightningkit Lightningkit felt Dawnbreeze's soft, rythmic strokes against his skull and his eyes drooped. It was like a massage, and somewhere off in the distance he heard a beautiful sound as if it were a lullaby. He tried to stay awake by talking, but his words were slurred. "Appentice...me...wanna...." His voice trailed off and he lay down by Dawnbreeze's paws, purring in his sleep with a smile. The feeling was so incredible, and visions of running freely outside of camp ran through his mind. One word can describe this emotion: lust. Normally used in love, however, Lightningkit wanted nothing more than to just run freely outside, do whatever he pleased. And tonight, whilst everyone in SunClan was sleeping peacefully, he would sneak out and run everywhere, see everything - if he didn't fall asleep first.

ooc// xD Did I do it again?
Dawnbreeze purred, watching Lightningkit fall asleep before finishing off the vole that Willowkit had brought. 'I must talk to Mintstar about Willowkit's apprenticeship.' Carefully, so as to not wake the sleeping tomkit, she bundled him in warm moss before quietly exiting the den. Padding over the the leader's den, she meowed a greeting, waiting for permission before entering.

;;lightningkit Lightningkit felt something move beside him and he suddenly felt groggy, knowing he was either about to fall into a deeper sleep, or wake up tired. He peeked open one eye and found that Willowkit was the only other one in there, and she was watching Dawnbreeze. He knew this was his only chance - he was going out into the forest! He stood to his paw and smiled, backing away as quietly as he could. When there was a russle from the moss, he scattered out the back and disappeared. Too bad Willowkit had seen his tail. Lightningkit looked around in amazement, his eyes widened. There were mountains and trees, and was that another Clan over there? There was so much to see, and Lightningkit wanted to see it all within the short time he had before getting caught. The consequences? He didn't care, he'd still have gone out here to see it all. He thought of what evil cats would keep kits away from this for six moons. "Why, Snowstar! I cannot believe it's you, how's our kit, Lightningkit doing? Earthstar said magnificently." Lightningkit jumped to the other side, smiling. "Why, fine Earthstar! Snowstar exclaimed, though there were tears in her eyes at the thought" He wanted to ask Dawnbreeze why he didn't look like her or Willowkit, but that was out of the question to hurt his mother's feelings. A sigh escaped his lips but, as he turned to go back, ran right into the lake. He stumbled, trying to stay away from it with fear, but collapsed. He felt water filling everywhere, and he needed to get back up...but he couldn't. Had he ventured too far? [/size]
;;shiningfrost Shiningfrost saw a kit drop into the ocean waves and she reached in, grasping him by the scruff and lifting him out. He was still conscious, but he needed herbs - but BoulderClan didn't have a medicine cat! And then she saw it, unmistakably. The gray ears, the orange pelt - this was Earthstar's kit. Shinngfrost wanted to take him back and wave the kit around for Earthstar to see, but she knew that... No, she would do it anyway. AS long as this kit was unconscious and didn't see - then everything would be okay. "Shh, little one, I'm taking you back to my den now for herbs." A snore told her she'd accomplished what she wanted.

Willowkit, focused on her mother, snapped her head around in surprise when she heard a noise behind her. The tip of a tail was just disappearing from site. Suddenly frantic, she called out Dawnbreezes' name, the queen rushing quickly back into the nursery. "Where's Lightningkit?" she demanded anxiously, Willowkit shook her head, rushing quickly into the hole that the young kit had exited from. Dawnbreeze followed, there wasn't any time to tell Mintstar. The two she-cats tracked Lightningkit all the way down to the lake, Dawnbreeze meowing in frustration and worry. The smell of the water was making it hard to distinguish any scents. Willowkit was still searching, sniffing at the ground and opening her mouth as a breeze from Lakeclan territory came her way. She was about to close her jaws when a strange scent hit her palate. "Shiningfrost!" she mewed out loud. Dawnbreeze, alert now, quickly regained her composure. "Willowkit! Go back to camp and alert Mintstar," the queen demanded, but Willowkit would not leave. "He is my brother," she said firmly, her eyes blazing with the determination that reflected from her mother's green eyes. Dawnbreeze nodded in understanding, and they both padded quickly and quietly into Lakeclan territory, knowing full well the consequences of being caught.

Oakpaw sat in the camp. Her brown fur blending in almost perfectly with the ground except for the blotches of white and yellow in her fur.She unseathed her claws and dug them into the dirt and ripped them out.Where is he!She thought to herself but made no notice of it in the real world. She stood to her paws and looked up.He gaze then flashed at the leaders den.She quietly padded over and mewed "Miststar are you in there?"She backed up and waited for the leader to answer her.If she did then she would go on with her question, if not then she would get mad and most likely take out her anger on something else.
