"Oh. Hi. You're doing fishing, arn't you, Maplepaw?" said Dovepaw, taken aback by the Apprentice's friendliness. Atleast it wasn't another clan. His smiled, more out of relief. It seemed the tension washed away. Another Sunclan apprentice! "Have you fished before?" he asked, tail twitching.
***
Mintstar coldly appeared a few seconds later then the rest ears thrust backwards as she bared her fangs at Earthstar. "When I last checked, Earthstar wasn't the leader of this meeting. Boulderclan has better things to do then argue with kittypets who think they can lead a clan." spat Mintstar, "Now did you want to start this or not, you dimwitted foxdung?" growled Mintstar, her temper high and flaring. Her voice was level, however, between leader vs. leader. Mintstar was thouroghly po'd. "And you might think of consulting me before you go and catnap two kits and a Queen from Boulderclan." she called over her shoulder her tail waving tauntingly in his face as she turned away.

Sunclan Dovepaw's smile and friendliness had taken a lot of the load off Maplepaw's shoulders. It was so nice to be with another apprentice from her own clan, some one familiar. Plus, it appeared nobody was competing in fishing from Lakeclan, which meant she had an even better shot at winning. A bit sheepishly, she first nodded and then shook her head. "Yes, I'm doing fishing, and no, I've never fished before." Her liquid amber eyes wandered to the beach where the competition would be held. Any minute it would be starting... She shrugged. "But it doesn't look like Lakeclan's competing- in fishing I mean. Kinda weird if they're not... but at least it gives me a shot at winning. Besides," she said in a mock cocky, half jokingly manner, smiling her lopsided smile (ooc: which though it may be associated most of the time with toms, Maplepaw's crooked smile is very gentle and feminine, just for the record. xP) "I don't think it will be too hard, I'll probably be able to do it." she then continued "What about you? Have you fished before?"

.:Lakeclan:. Earthstar’s fur bristled to needle points and his claws extended to a length they had never done before, scraping and clacking against the rocks in a ringing manner so all the Boulderclan cats could hear. Kittypet! And them speaking as if he was holding them up! His pupils narrowed, the circular orbs surrounding them bloodshot and red. He had fallen for Mintstar’s bait and become angry; but Earthstar was no fool and desperately he tried to claw himself of his writhing, foaming, frothing anger pit. ”Well” he mewed, his voice shaking ever so slightly with suppressed rage, but his tone once again loud and carrying so all the cats could hear. ”As no one seems to be objecting to me being in charge here, I’ll keep doing it.” The brown tabby tom shot a very nasty look over at Boulderclan, his eyes taking in the defiant looking leader, the slightly distracted looking deputy, her bristling apprentice, a bigger apprentice who looked thoroughly bored and a handful of other Boulderclan cats in various degrees of anger or annoyance. ”The Fishing contest will begin in 60 seconds” Earthstar mewed clearly, turning his back very pointedly on Mintstar and padding down to the lake. He kept one eye on his back however, lest a Boulderclan cat sneak up behind him.
.:Sunclan:. ”Pinepaw …no” Moongaze mewed distractedly, wishing he could say something a little more consoling and helpful to his mate. His grey fur suddenly stood on end right from the tufts on his ears all the way along his spine and to the very tip of his long grey tail. The apprentice contest was starting! ”I’ll see you later” he told Sunset distractedly, moving forwards to lick her cheek but being pushed and shunted towards the shore by the mass of pressing, excited bodies before he could reach her. ”Maplepaw” he called, seeing his apprentice taking her position. At the moment there was no one beside her, and Moongaze realized that it was a Boulderclan cat she would be competing against; even more a reason to get to her. All the cats seemed to stop at the edge of the beach, as though an invisible line had been built in the sand. They were packed into little clan groups, some mingling, but most muttering within themselves and shooting furtive glances at the other cats. ”Maplepaw” he mewed more softly as she was nearer now, hurrying onto the nearly empty stretch of sand. He bent his head low to her ear, whispering fast. ”Just keep relaxed, and whatever you do, however many fish the other apprentice catches, keep your calm. The fish can …sense it.” The only reason Moongaze knew this was because he remembered being lectured by Otterfur some time ago. ”And uh…be careful if you win” he mewed, his smile going a little lop-sided. Lakeclan and Boulderclan were dangerous enemies.
Otterfur felt like halting in her tracks, the question she had just heard pounding around her, but, pushing on she grabbed Cinderkit by the scruff and hauled her to a nearby rock, some 30 metres away from all the other cats were gathered. It looked like the contest was starting. ”Cinderkit, never do that again” she mewed gruffly, choking back tears of relief. The kitten appeared fine, but both of them would soon get cold as the temperature had plummeted lately …it was getting to winter. ”What did you think you were doing, you …” Otterfur stopped, the water dripping slowly of her water-coated brown pelt. She was doing exactly what she { as Otterkit } had always hated, turning worry and fear into anger and directing it at kits. No - she was above that level, and it seemed like the least thing Cinderkit needed. The tiny kit she had tried to feed and look after all those moons was older now, and deserved her questions answered. Oh Fireclan - it was so hard though. ”I don’t hate you” she mewed softly, licking the top of Cinderkit’s soaking head. ”No, not at all and you don’t annoy me…you just scare me sometimes…” Otterfur paused, biting her lips. She was ignoring Cinderkit’s main question - but it was a question that needed answering. ”No” she said finally, hanging her head, lost for what to say.
.:Boulderclan:. ”Oh shut up you erm …fool” mewed Snakecharm as defensively as he could back at Earthstar. He bristled his fur along his paw. He unsheathed his claws. He didn’t feel right in the slightest. It had been growing on his for days, like a parasite that lodged itself in your very veins and clung there, slowly growing and poisoning the blood. It was exactly like that - a worry, a burden …a truth. Snakecharm didn’t believe he belonged in Boulderclan. He didn’t particularly like the clan, and although he felt a sense that he was bound to defend it deep within his very bone marrow, he never felt involved in the clan …accepted. He had been bullied all his apprentice life, but he tried not to feel too much resentment to that fact, Coldheart had been too, Coldheart! Coldbreath could make anyone a victim if he wanted to, along with the little suck-up Falconwing. But now the white and brown warrior was indeed that - a warrior and had stopped living his life by how he thought things should be done, and starting living it how he wanted it to be done. And he didn’t feel right. For one thing, everyone else was describing ways they would hunt and kill Coldbreath with relish, and Snakecharm was merely confused on how fast their objectives could turn. They all loved battles - Snakecharm tried to avoid them. And Snakecharm was weak, the runt of the litter they had called him. It was true - he wasn’t the build of a Boulderclan, with small, dainty hind legs and large spade-like paws. ”Yeah…” he muttered distractedly to himself, staring at the dirt covered ground.

Sun Cinderkit nodded silently and forced tears back into her eyes, desperately wishing that those tear-ducts weren't there. She gulped softly and looked up to Otterfur again. Did SunClan take me from my real parents? She asked, almost a whisper. She had to go over the level of the noise away from her, but she needed to know. The shock that she wasn't born in SunClan was incredible to Cinderkit, that meant every step she took inside that Clan wasn't hers. She belonged to another Clan entirely. But - wait...if she was from another Clan, leaders would've mentioned at the gathering that a kit had been missing or taken - unless no leader had said anything. and she was a rogue. Cinderkit buried her head in her paws, the thought driving her mad.

ooc-- Sorry - he will come back to it.
.:Sunclan:. ”No” Otterfur mewed firmly, but kindly, nudging Cinderkit very gently with her large, moist nose. She half wished she hadn’t told the kitten now, but she would have had to sometime, and was very glad Cinderkit wasn’t having a tantrum with her …although it seemed wrong to say she preferred the kit in tears. ”I’m sure your parents were lovely cats …but they knew they couldn’t care for you the way a beautiful little kit like you should be cared for …so they came and gave you to Sunclan.” Otterfur gulped, hoping her eyes wouldn’t give away that this part of the story was not entirely true. No one knew who Cinderkit’s parents were and they had abandoned her on Sunclan territory; not quite the romantic, pleasant vision Otterfur was trying to paint in Cinderkit’s mind of a swap-over.

Crimsonaura could clearly see the obvious contemptful look Earthstar always seemed to save for them, and for once, this caused a reaction. The lithe feline deputy's fur bristled lividly, and she shot the LakeClan leader a resentful glower that could kill. What was his problem with BoulderClan anyway? It was as if he wanted nothing more than to have more than just a rivalry with them, as they had always had before now. He was taking it to a whole new level, challenging and demeaning. If the brown furball wanted to play that way, fine, BoulderClan was all game. Scoffing, the she-cat turned her gaze to the group of BoulderClan cats, her gaze searching out both Cheetahpaw and Snakecharm. She wanted to find Cheetahpaw to help boost up his confidence and get him going. Snakecharm... Well. She felt like talking with the tom-cat. Why, she wasn't too sure. Eventually it would come to her. The apprentice of Mintstar was easy to spot amoung her Clan, with his tawny fur and the black-splotches that looked like they had been randomly placed on his pelt for pure amusement. Picking her way through cats that were in her way, she weaved over to the male, nudging him with her muzzle. Once Cheetahpaw had turned questioningly to face her, she smiled warmly. "I know this should be coming from Mintstar herself, but she seems a tad busy right now. I think you need a confidence builder." Crimsonaura's orbs inspected his face for any reaction to her statement, only finding interest and attentive listening from the young tom, which was actually surprising. "You could say I know a bit about fishing. For instance, make sure your shadow doesn't fall over the water's surface; it's prone to startle the fish beneath. And keep silent. That's key. When your positive that you're in the perfect position, ready a paw over the water, leaving it to hover, and when you see that fish... Flash your paw towards it and knock it out of the water towards the ground as swift as possible; it must be done in a fast, fluid movement, so the fish you're attempting to catch doesn't sense your intentions. Got it?" It turned out she really did know enough about fishing to do it herself. From observing the LakeClan cats fishing on their turf carefully, she was able to pick up on the tactics and the key elements of fishing. "To add, don't mind the other apprentice or apprentices that are competing in this contest. Mind your own business, keep your concentration solely on the fish you are to catch alone, and most importantly, try your best. You're a smart cat when you want to, Cheetahpaw. Use those smarts." Cheetahpaw nodded solemnly, answering with a mew of "Yes, Crimsonaura", and whisking off to the place where the Fishing competition would take place. Satisfied with her speech, the flame-coloured female began her search for Snakecharm this time. Her orbs landed on the warrior not too far off, and she padded over to him with a slight bounce to her step. Her motivational and helpful talk with Cheetahpaw made her feel more buoyant and happy for reasons she couldn't quite place a paw on. At least this was taking Pebblekit off her mind. "How are you, Snakecharm?" she meowed rather timidly, padding to a stop by his side. Why did she get this feeling that he looked like he didn't feel in place? Pushing the thought out of her mind, the deputy smiled warmly.
"Hmph. Where's that Oakpaw when you need the stupid mouse-brained apprentice?" Coldheart muttered after removing his glaring gaze off of Earthstar. That leader was like a burr that got under your skin: except it was more irritating than necessary. Oakpaw came to view soon after he roved his cold blue eyes over the "sea" of cats, and he made his way over to her. Giving the she-cat a stern glance, the black-and-white tom flicked an ear. "Now Oakpaw, when you're fighting your opponent, don't get cocky and start thinking you're going to win when it seems so. That is deemed a fateful mistake in my books, and could land you in the losing side in a matter of seconds if you're not careful. So just keep low and carefully watch the other cat's maneuvers and, most importantly, body language. When you see an opening, seize the chance and strike. Are you getting any of this? And please-" he managed to get the word out somehow, "- don't start an arguement over this, even though I know just how much you love to for the heck of it. Alright?"

Sun Cinderkit simply couldn't help herself. Tears welled over and she buried her head into Otterfur's chest, crying as silently as she possibly could. She gulped and managed to murmur a few words, thinking of their relationship. I love you, Otterfur. A motherly bond, and memories of Cinderkit's kithood with Otterfur ran through her mind. She tried remembering something before that, but it was blank and filled with some disgusting scent. She'd scented all the Clans, yet this one just smelled...evil.
Boulder Lightningkit bit back a retort at the 'catnapped' comment, which was completely barbaric in his eyes. However; he wanted to stay in LakeClan. There were so many kits to play with there and - and Heatherkit was kind of cute. He shook away the thought, she might be his sister! He sighed, looking to Willowkit and Dawnbreeze. It was obvious they were related, with their tawny-coloured pelts, but he was orange with grey ears, why would he be related to two tortoiseshells? He wasn't.

SunClan
Skystar heard the retorts flying back and forth. He glanced up and looked at the full moon in the sky, barley able to see it.Miststar and Earthstar were both getting on his nerves but somehow he will have to keep it in for this one thing and maybe take it out on a tree as most cats do. Sunset sighed and nodded while mewing behind him "Thanks Moongaze."She growled slightly and went looking around for the apprentice."Come on Pinepaw."She mewed softly and lowly as she glanced on the ground for the small apprentices paws."I've got a bit to tell you about seeking!"She hissed as she glanced up a while to check where she was going and not wanting to bump into anybody not even a BoulderClan cat but she thought to soon and bumped into Coldheart. She stood up quickly and mewed "Excuse me for that."She then walked around him and glanced around from a higher altitude.
BoulderClan Oakpaws paws itched with antisipation and then she yowled Yah you big clump of useless fur!" Right towards Earthstar. She didn't care.It was her nature and it looked like Mintstar would really care either at the moment.More proud then ashamed.About to yowl something even more harsh Coldheart came up to her and started telling her something. Blah blah blahShe thought to herself as he went on about something she didn't even care about."Yah whatever.Go practise your mewing on the trees Coldheart."She mewed to him and then padded off to meet some of the other apprentices and hopefully learn their weakness. Her brown head looked up and she spotted Dovepaw and Maplepaw. She padded over to them and mewed "Hey.Any of you fighting from SunClan?"Her tail twiched and ears but showed no emotion of fear or fright more exciting.

Sunclan "Ok." Maplepaw said, gratefull for the advice. "Thanks, Moongaze. I'll do my best." The cinnamon apprentice then turned back towards the water and took her position. Down below her in the glassy water she could see little silver fish flashing as the light hit them. The light reflected off the water and into her amber eyes in a sort of mirror effect. She took a deep breath. Stay calm, that was the key... stay calm...

ooc-- Who be the Boulderclan fisher? It needs to start! !.! And by the way Black Feathers …Oakpaw is one screwed up kitty. …Reminds me a little of Phrax… *snicker*
.:Sunclan:. ”I love you too Cinderkit” Otterfur mewed, licking Cinderkit’s head, two pearly white and translucent tears seeping from the dewy corners of both eyes. It had been a heart-wrenching few minutes for both kitten and warrior. ”And I’ll always look after you for ever and ever” she added, putting her warm muzzle against the kittens still wet flank. ”And come on” she mewed, getting to her feet and lashing her long brown tail from side to side playfully, ”we’ve got an apprentice contest to watch!”

|ooc| Aren't you nice, Black Feathers. D8 And by the way, CHEETAHPAW is the BoulderClan fisher. REEEAAAADDDD~\ AND FUDGSTER. DON'T FORGET SNAKECHARM. -- pokes last, too-long-of-a-post -- Crimsonaura is talking to him. SHE NEEDS A CONVERSATION.
>O;
|bic| <| BoulderClan |>
"Alright... So, let's go over this again. Make sure my shadow doesn't hover over the surface of the water, startling the fish beneath or giving it a heads up. Keep silent and concentrated, and strike quickly in a fluid action... Okay. That's not too hard," Cheetahpaw mumbled to himself conversationally under his breath as he sped towards the fishing spot, skidding to a stop by the water's edge, a feet fox-lengths away from Maplepaw. Turning his gaze to her, he swiftly looked her over and then resumed his attention to the surface of water. Seeing that his shadow fell across it, he shifted a bit more to the side, finding it satisfactory when his silhouette didn't touch the water's smooth, unrippled surface. The tawny apprentice took deep, meditative breathfuls of air, keeping calm. He'd do alright. All he had to do was try his best, ignore the other apprentices and onlookers, and remember what Crimsonaura had said. He lifted a paw gingerly, lifting it in front of him until it was announced that the Fishing contest would commence.
"You bratty lump of fur!" Coldheart spat, baring his teeth after Oakpaw ruthlessly. He tried to give the hot-headed apprentice some good advice and tips on fighting, and she just retorts with a smart-mouth reply and strides off without proper excuses? Biting his lip in an act of refraining from yowling after her in a fit, the warrior spun around as Sunset bumped into him, and he silently glowered after her with a growl. "Watch it." Gnashing his teeth, the now bad-tempered tom-cat stomped over to the sidelines to watch Cheetahpaw with his contest. This would be entertaining.

Sun Cinderkit nodded, but that recent activty had made her exhausted. The running, the swimming, the sobbing...it was all too much for a young kit. She yawned and leaned into Otterfur's side, trying to stay awake. However; memories of what she had just learned and encountered haunted her small, fragile mind. Cinderkit wanted to scream out loud and run around in hysterics, but she did not. Right now she honestly didn't care what happened in the Apprentice Contest, she just wanted to go home.
