The burning sun beat down upon the camp floor, the long dried up moist earth turned into hard, brown dust and the lush plants that lined and pacified the camp yellow and withered. It was only May but the heat of the summer sun showed no mercy for the creatures and plants that thrived in the lochs and hills of that area- even less for the clan of feral cats that had taken residense in that particular place. The sky was blue with not a cloud puncturing the milky surface and the sun was huge, hot and white. No birds winged their solitary way across it, nor any squirrels ran and chattered along the dry branches of the trees. The only things out were bees, flies and wasps, and the lazy looking cats moping around Lakeclan camp. Each one of them looked strained, tired and irritated and they crouched in the shade of the the hills or pressed up against the iron grey rocks. Their tails flicked lazily and their ears were past rotating watchfully, instead laid flat across their skulls. Everything shimmered every so slightly and the atmoshpere was of peace and tranquility...and heat.
Walnutkit groaned as she shifted position yet again. She was so hot - her dark pelt clung thickly to her skin, feeling heavy and thicker than it really was. Her ears began to cool him down although this tiny releif was overpowered quickly by the white hot orb up in the sky. She wanted to go to the river and drop herself into it, feel the cool rushing water calm her irritated skin but it was tried into a muddly trickle. Then she had wanted to go to the lakes but the only lakes that the little kits were allowed into were clogged with algea and frogs eggs. Thinking longily of the bigger lakes, their tranquil waters and sleek, slippery fish. There were no other kits in the nursery either although Walnutkit was in no mood to play with them anyway. Sometimes she just wanted to run away - where there were loads of kits and cool places...not here. But then - if Lakeclan wasn't good - where was?
Earthstar snapped moodily at a passing insect, his fur fluffed up with dicomfort. He couldn't stay here - he had to get out of this clan. He knew that they were not responsible for the heat but it was nice to blame someone and they were the nearest people here. Yes...he should go on a patrol. It was boiling and he would definatley work up a sweat, which would dry, and hurt.... He rolled his eyes angrily, thourghly fed up with the whole world at the moment. So where should he go...Sunclan was just as open but lower that Lakeclan - so no. Boulderclan was dry and even more parched than here - so no again, Dreamclan.....Dreamclan was higher, therefore cooler and there were more trees and water. That was it. And who to take? No one. He felt that right not he did not need company. Rising, ignoring his aching limbs and streaming eyes he padded out of the camp, quickly taking in the surroundings.

Nightfire looked around as she felt her black coat get heavier."Now I hate having black fur."She mewed to herself quietly and twiched her ears around.A scent flooded her.Earthstar's scent. She looked at where it lead to but didn't move to go.Where he went she didn't really care.It was his clan so what could she do.She was just another slave to get prey, fight and other things the warriors did to help out the clan. She felt her throat go dry.Itching to eat something she stopped herself saying "I already ate."She looked around for water close by but there was nothing but dried up puddles. [/size]

Shiningfrost, who had already awoken hours before, started yowling curses everywhere. These caterwauls seemed to shock every cat in camp awake, but she didn't seem to have the faintest idea. "Great StarClan!" There was a clatter, obviously revealing she had just spilled about half of her herbs supply. She began yowling things that little kits and apprentices definitely shouldn't have heard, but some of them did anyway. She came out of her den, fur ruffled and messy, an angered look upon her face. Why now? Shiningfrost felt as though every time she needed everything perfect, everything went absolutely wrong. She didn't even say where she was going, she just padded into the forest with rage twinkling in her eyes.
ooc;; Fudgey; if you want, you can make Earthy go on a patrol right now to DreamClan. That might be best, or not...

Cornflower inclined her head after the medicine cat, half risen on her falls but she let her protesting body flump back down into the earth. Shiningfrost could handle herself. She knew that - they had been kit friends together and Cornflower liked to think that she knew everything about their pretty but charismatic medicine cat, but of course no one could, prehaps not even Shiningfrost herself. Head resting on her paws she stared moodily at the dust. It was not like the beige she-cat to be moody but today it was all she felt. After the chaos of the dogs - everything seemed to have stopped, leaving behind it heat, discomfort and bad temper. Maybe Shiningfrost was going after Earthstar. The two seemed to be a little closer ever since the dogs although every time Earthstar walked past he purposefully turned his head away from the medicine cat. She sighed. Love was such a strange thing, it was felt in the summer even more as kitless cats watched with jealous eyes as new mothers raised their tiny bundles of fur into fine warriors and new fathers watched proudly.
ooc-- Okay - Earthy'll head right over.

When Shiningfrost returned, she seemed to be in a more calm and relaxed mood...but more troubled. One of her greatest friends, Cornflower, was spotted with her beautiful and stunning blue eyes. She padded over to him and sat down, resting her head on her paws. Her eyes twinkled with sadness and worry, no doubt for Earthstar. "Earthstar's been acting sick again lately. I-I think he's still in love with that former apprentice..." She knew medicine cat's shouldn't fall in love, but...but Earthstar was so different.

Nightfire looked up from where she sat and watched Shiningfrost come back. She smiled and then stood up streching a bit and padded into the small forest they had.Time to catch some prey. She thought to herself as she quickly but silently slipped through the branches and thicket into an opening near the lake in the middle. Quickly she ran up and stopped a tail length from the edge.A bit more slowly she padded up and sat down on the edge looking for a fish to come by. After a while but to her it felt like moons a plump silver fish swam by.Nightfire licked her lips and waited for the right moment and she swung her paw in with unseathed claws. She felt something hit into her claws and she pulled it right out.The fish was sitting right in her claws. She placed the fish down and waited for more to come by. .:Cornflower:. Cornflower looked at Shiningfrost, understanding dawning in her eyes. "You...he....Tanglewood...oh......no....yes?....." She closed her mouth, ceasing her flow of babbling, her pale amber eyes locking with Shiningfrost's deep blue ones. "You love him don't you" she said finally, her eyes emoticon less. She had thought this had happened for a long time but it felt good to be saying it outloud - confirming her suspicions. Like her eyes - her tone carried no hint of what she was feeling for Shiningfrost as she wasn't quite sure herself. The pretty medicine cat seemed somehow suited to Earthstar...yet somehow not and in her heart she felt dissaproval for Shiningfrost but also a huge sense of pity and overwhelmingness. Once again, after a long pause, she turned to face Shiningfrost from where she had been staring at the ground. "Which apprentice" she said finally, her ears twitching slightly as she thought. Then she grinned - "not Thrushpaw, surely not Thrushpaw." Her voice dropped sadly a little, "poor Thrushpaw...but no, surely not - she and Earthstar were...well...." Cornflower didn't know what she was going to say. The truth was - Earthpaw and Thrushpaw had been perfect to each other in every way...but Shiningfrost looked so distraught that she couldn't bring herself to say it. "No, Thrushpaw was too...too erm..." Her voice trailed away and she looked imploringly at Shiningfrost, pity now flooding from her amber moist circles.

.:Earthstar:. Earthstars pupils narrowed as he saw Nightfire, she looked innocent and harmless - so he would pick on her. "What are you doing" he growled, storming over one of the little hills that seperated Lakeclan from Dreamclan. Lakeclan bordered Sunclan and Dreamclan mainly but it was possible to get into Boulderclan by climbing over the small ridge that bordered Crows Hill. Now Earthstar padded rapidly towards his warrior over Scarlet Ridge, one of the small hills between the clan of lakes and the clan of dreams. The sight of his livid face could strike fear into the hearts of all but the hardiest warrior, he was not angry at Nightfire - he could see that she was simply hunting, but right now he needed someone to direct his turmoiling emoticons too, and Nightfire just happened to be the closest {unfortunate} cat.

The rain had churned the baked earth into a sea of mud. Lilacbalm awoke, and picked her way out into the morning. She looked about, her ginger eyes showing more hapiness than they had in moons, despite foul conditions. She looked back into the warriors den. "Hey," she called, "Hyperspirit. Erm... are you going to organise a dawn patrol?" What a stupid thing to say. Better than anything else she was likely to say. Well, she'd have to wait, and see what he thought. He might not notice. Or he might pretend not to notice. Or she might be blowing this whole thing out of proportion. The forced her buzzing brain to be still as she awaited his answer. If course it was only an excuse to talk to him.

Hyperspirit was already awake. He just wanted to proscastinate. He was listening to the Voice ranting about something or other. He wasn't really concentrating. She was driving him insane. But then Lilacbalm spoke. Thank Starclan, a distraction. "Rather not, I say let them rest. The dog attack must have tired them out. Would you accompany me? I wish to carry out the dawn patrol alone, but a companion would be better." He nodded, coughing. The Voice had stopped for a while. Thank Starclan, he could think straight.

Lilacbalm nodded, before realising that he couldn't see her. "Certainly," she mewed. She hung her head. "That fight, I'm afraid, was not one I joined in. Much to my regret." She had been too late, and sorely felt the frustration of not being part of the great Driving-Out, surely destined to become part of Forest ledgend. Yet another missed opportunity. She began walking, waiting for him to reach her side. "We'll see if we can't get you some tansy for that cough. I know where it grows, we can make a detour." She had missed many opportunities. She wondered if it were best not even to notice them arising. But then again, she looked back at Hyperspirit, eyes unreadable.

Hyperspirit shrugged, smiling. "I wasn't in that fight either, if it makes you feel better. I had other matters to attend to." He didn't want to talk about it. The Voice kept screaming at him to avenge his mother, and he actually partly managed to. He had caught one of the rogues, their faces imprinted in his mind. It had tried to trespass onto Lakeclan territory. He dispatched of the rogue, feeling his burden lightened. In truth, he had made it worse, the Voice urging him to finish what he began. "Why, thank you. I don't really Shiningfrost. I'd think she'd try and poison me." He smiled, knowing that thinking a medicine cat would poison you was not a joking matter. He coughed once more, going up to Lilacbalm. "Take the lead?" He commanded passively. They would believe they had a choice, but in truth, they were being commanded.

I wonder what he had to attend to. Let him keep his secrets. He let us keep ours. What if it's important to the safety of the clan? If it was he'd of told. And that's his choice anyway. She nodded and smiled. "Of course." The ground beneath the trees was slightly drier than it was in the camp, with only the large drop that occasionally rolled off the end of a sodden leaf to dodge. She walked in amiable silence for a bit, the Lilacbalm decided to make gentle conversation. Her voice was quite soft, and carried a lilting accent local to the land. "We won't smell much in this rain."

Hyperspirit coughed, following her. The Voice constantly screamed at him. 'Go kill your brother!' It screamed. 'Wha?' He replied. 'Go.Kill.Your.Brother.' It yelled. 'I don't have any brothers.' He shot back. 'The rogues, one of them is your brother.' It mewed. Hyperspirit didn't reply. This was not the case, though. His siblings were all killed. "We still have our eyes, and our ears. We might not be able to renew the scent markers, but I'm sure the dusk patrol can do it. We can keep out intruders, although we might not be able to renew our borders." He repeated, nodding to himself.
