Sure, he was disappointed. Who wouldn't be, especially when you missed something so big as a Gathering; you couldn't help but feel disappointed. Disgruntled and unhappy about not being able to go to the Gathering, Eagletalon bounded towards the nursery entrance, hesitating. Should he go in and wait for Tigerlily to awaken? Actually, now that he thought about it, it wouldn't be the greatest of ideas. She wouldn't appreciate his being there, like now; she was too close to kitting to be bothered by his useless questions; or so she told him. Giving the entrance a longing look, he contented himself by stationing himself beside it, giving his brown paws a few licks and watching the goings-on inside the camp with his sharp yellow eyes.

Stripepaw heaved herself up as Walnutkit uttered the word 'play'. She quirked an eyebrow in the darkness, and padded over to the den's entrance. 10 moons of difference in age was an advantage, as the apprentice towered over the ebony-furred kit. Play? Hmmm... Maybe. The she-cat fixed her lime-green eyes on the younger feline, and then she responded by suddenly striding past the cat. "Well, hurry up!" Stripepaw mewed, eyes scanning the area for a suitable place to play.

.:Walnutkit:. His ebony face burning, Walnutkit turned to the clearing, totally at a loss for what to do or act when he was saved the trouble of finding a /play/ area. He had a nasty suspicion that playing with the experienced apprentice would be a little like a real battle...where he was hopelessly overpowered. He was saved this rather unpleasant experience by a yowl and the sounds of many pawsteps and chattering voices. Obviously the warriors had returned! Wriggling away from Stripepaw as quickly as he could Walnutkit ran to the returning Lakeclan cats who looked rather happy and unharmed. Obviously it had been a more peaceful gathering that last time. "What happened" he squeaked at the first warrior he saw he promptly ignored him and swept past him, making Walnutkit run backwards several steps on light paws. As he watched with huge forest green eyes Earthstar shouldered past, leaping up onto the highrock and opening his fanged mouth.
.:Earthstar:. "All cats old enough to....well, you know what" Earthstar belted out, his voice cheery and jovial. He leapt up onto the high rock as if his feet were winged and felt another surge of happiness as he felt the cool, uneven stone beneath the pads of his paws. Oh he was happy. He kept seeing the white pelt and sweet fragrance of the Dreamclan leaders playing through his mind and he was happy that no other cat could see what he could, especially not Shiningfrost. Shiningfrost... Looking determinedly anywhere but at the pale medicine cat Earthstar began his speech, still smiling contentedly. "Well, after that great gathering I have three young cats here who need a little ceremony. The first is Stripepaw who I am proud to say will be mentored by Cornflower. Cornflower, you are a good warrior and I hope you pass on your skills well to this apprentice." Earthstar had certainly never conducted a ceremony like this before, it was normal 'Cornflower - Stripepaw, go, NOW." Today it was all smiles and praise and happiness. "The second is Banditpaw. Banditpaw - you shall be mentored by Nightfire. Nightfire, I know you will pass on your considerable talents to your new apprentice. And finally we have Walnutkit who is to become a new apprentice - Walnutpaw." He paused a moment, allowing a couple of other cats to mew 'Walnutpaw' to the night air. "You shall be mentored by Eagletalon who I am sure will mentor you fantasticly. And now..." He trailed off, his eyes suddenly narrowed. "Where's Hyperspirit" he growled, the smiles, praise and happiness disappearing with a silent pop. "WHERE'S HYPERSPIRIT" he bellowed at the cats.
.:Cornflower:. She - a mentor? And her sister too! A smile almost as big as Earthstar split her face as she padded forwards to meet her new apprentice. "Hello Stripepaw" he mewed kindly, looking her apprentice up and down and feeling and slight jolt. When she had always dreamed herself with an apprentice, for she had many times, the apprentice had always been small, full of life but rather pathetic. A little like Walnutpaw. But Stripepaw just looked...well...friendly would be the opposite.

.:Nightfire:. Nightfire looked suprise of her being a mentor.Smiling she padded up to Banditpaw and mewed "Hello Banditpaw.I'm Nightfire."She touched noses with the apprentice and then looked over at her sister. She padded over and mewed "Cornflower want to take our new apprentices out tommorow for training?"Seeing as it was dark outside from the gathering.

.::Eagletalon::. At the sight of the clan cats that had been chosen to go to the Gathering, Eagletalon had snorted, about to pad away slowly into the nursery when Earthstar called a meeting. Grumbling, the white-headed warrior slumped back, sitting with unconcern and indifference, listening only vaguely. At the mention of his name, he sat bolt upright. Him, chosen to be a mentor? Suddenly brightening at this prospect, he got up to his paws smoothly, looking around for Walnutkit; no, Walnutpaw. At finding him, the brown warrior strode towards his new apprentice, lowering his head and respectably touching noses with Walnutpaw. So far, he was glowing with pride. Well, he may not have gotten to go to the Gathering, but he had his own, newfound apprentice to mentor.
.::Tigerlily::. The black-striped queen had just woken up, hearing the pounding of many paws as they entered the camp. She wolfed down the mouse that Eagletalon had left her, got to her paws, and listened intently for a moment. At the sound of Earthstar's voice and the mention of her mate being a mentor, she purred happily. It was about time he had an apprentice to teach. Licking a paw and hurriedly washing herself, she bounded out of camp carefully, not wanting to disturb her unborn kits. Glancing about, she soon found him, practically bursting with happiness. She waited, knowing that Eagletalon would want to get to know his apprentice better.

Ears twitching as they picked up the sound of possibly a hundred padding paws brushing the ground nearby, Stripepaw instinctively turned away from Walnutkit and preceded to the highrock as the leader of the LakeClan began speaking. The she-cat was met with the sight of the many felines whom she knew very well to have attended the Gathering, and slowly, the light in her eyes changed to reflect a sour demeanor. The apprentice quickly averted her gaze from the warriors and concentrated on Earthstar. Considerably, her golden-brown ears perked up as her name was mentioned. A mentor? Well about time! Stripepaw allowed a small smirk, feeling the presence of Cornflower not far. She was being greeted, and responded in turn, “Hello.” Was that it? Stripepaw was a little surprised at her brief sentence, as the apprentice knew herself to be extremely talkative. Then again, today hadn’t been all-that filled with conversations…. She barely registered the other apprentice receiving a mentor and Walnutkit’s (Walnutpaw’s) new dawn of apprenticeship. Oh goodie, training. Stripepaw was snapped out of her thoughts when the leader suddenly bellowed the name of the deputy. Huh? What had happened?

.:Cornflower:. With a small nod and an even smaller smile Cornflower acknowledged her apprentice. It wasn't that Cornflower was unfriendly - far from it but she was still a little nervous and over-awed. She refrained from saying anything else as it was obvious that Earthstar was not finished - although she wished he had ended in the good mood. He looked livid.
.:Walnutpaw:. Walnutpaws face was lit with such happiness and boundless joy that it would warm the hearts of any warrior who saw him. He was an apprentice - and he hadn't been expecting it either which made it all the better. Walnutpaw...Walnutpaw! It sounded so great to say and think his new name - and to know that it was real, not just a day dream too. And the wise, quick and witty Eagletalon as a mentor just made things better! He leapt up to return his mentors greeting enthusiastically, bumping the older warriors muzzle slightly with his as he did this. Landing back onto all four paws at once he looked nervously at Tigerlily. He had forgotten that Eagletalon had a mate - a mate who was expecting kits too. Would this hinder their training? He felt a tiny stab of guilt as he wished she were not expecting, because then he would have Eagletalon and all his attention to himself. For a split second Walnutpaw wondered why Earthstar had chosen a father-to-be as a mentor but then a bad thought struck him. Did Earthstar not know the clan? He shook his head, trying to forget about bad, unloyal thoughts like that.
.:Earthstar:. "WHERE'S HYPERSPRIT?!?" the brown leader bellowed, in the full attention of every cat in the clearing now. His fur was jagged, spiked up with anger and his spine curved in a great arch along his back. Needless to say his claws were outstretched. All thoughts of the new apprentices, Lakeclan and even Snowstar who had been padding across his mind for the last hour or so were forgotten. He had quite a good reason to be angry at his deputy - he had missed both gatherings and the big fight between feline and canine. He regularly was out of camp and Earthstar couldn't remember a single time that he had sent out a patrol. And now...this was the last straw. Breathing in and out heavily, his green eyes rolled back to expose fuming white stripes he opened his mouth to speak, his long yellow fangs looking bigger than ever in his anger. "Smokefoot, Spellcaster and Eagletalon - go looking for him." He breathed heavily through his nostrils, making shimmering clouds in the hot, dusty Lakeclan air. "And bring him back at once."

Spellcaster snickered, unsheathing her claws. "Okay Earthstar, we're on it." She shook her head onc, knowing that this was her chance. From what Earthstar said, she could guess this was his last chance. Another step closer to deputy, then. "I never really liked him. Something edgy about him." She mewed to no one in particular, padding towards the camp entrance. Of course she would lead the search. What other way to impress dear Earthstar? (Short.)

Shiningfrost knew this was her chance, to talk about it. She hadn't spoken to Earthstar since the dog attack, now was her chance. He'd have to talk to her now, he wouldn't have the ability to just look the other way. All of these thoughts building in her head, she remembered. 'I know who you fell for, and don't ask me why I'm yelling at you, Earthstar. Wait, wait, what's wrong? Next time a dog comes hurtling toward your throat I'll just let it keep going.'
A little harsh, who cared? It was the truth. She didn't care that he didn't love her back, she didn't care that she was falling for a cat who hated her guts...he should show gratitude because she SAVED HIS LIFE, D**NIT. But she was yelling in her own mind again, she grew courage. She waited by her den for him to climb off of the highrock, and then she'd have her chance...

.:Earthstar:. With an approving nod at Spellcaster, Earthstar began plotting one hundred things to do to Hyperspirit. He was not sure whether to strip him of his deputy position publicly in a huge dramatic show or simply take him into his den and give him some rather harsh words. The two ideas raged a fearsome battle inside the tabby toms cranium and he snickered slightly. With a fluid motion he leapt off the high rock, muscles bunching then releasing quickly, his two front paws almost touching as he sailed groundwards. Now..what to do until his little patrol came back? He hung his head, in a sort of happy day dream, thinking of Snowstar and suddenly feeling as if the whole deputy matter was not so important after all. His paws carried him past Shiningfrosts den.

Shiningfrost yowled out his name very loud, loud enough to make him jump. Thankfully, he had heard. His little ears hadn't simply ignored her, it was loud enough. "EARTHSTAR!" She padded over to him and looked into his eyes, which caused her to be lost for a moment. "We need to talk."

.:Earthstar:. Despite himself he gulped. Then he smirked. He was a huge, bulky leader. She was a small, skinny leader. Although she looked mad... "Yes..." he said warily.
ooc-- Ahh!!! 'Tis short!

Shiningfrost smirked, but it instantly disappeared. She hoped his eyes widened, but why wouldn't they? After she said this, his secret exposed, he'd be angry and afraid...very angry and afraid. "How's Snowstar doing? Have any...plans with her tomorrow?"

.:Earthstar:. Earthstar's heart jolted. What....how.....she......when......what? "What!?!" he spat at the medicine cat, inky pupils dilated. He suddenly found his heart was beating very fast - what did Shiningfrost mean? Did she think they were in love? Were they in love? His eyes widened nervously but he hid his fear and feelings by staring stonily at his medicine cat. "Explain yourself" he hissed venomously.

Shiningfrost found her throat growing dry, she was finally telling him off. Emotions swam in her eyes. Pain, hatred, love...no, no. She couldn't do anything now, she'd have to tell him off. "You didn't show any gratitude when I saved you from the dogs, why do I have to explain anything?" She asked, but her voice was soft...did she really want to be angry with him right now?
